THE team of Buenavista was hailed champion of the 2nd Invitational GUIMELCO One-day Basketball League as part of “GAME FOR LIGHT” program held on May 30, 2024 at MCO Hall, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
San Lorenzo and Jordan teams ranked first and second runners-up, respectively.
Part of the 45th Founding Anniversary of the Guimaras Electric Cooperative (GUIMELCO), the activity was participated by teams from the municipalities of Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, San Lorenzo, and GUIMELCO through the support of their respective district MCO organization.
The event aimed to ignite collaboration and friendship among member-consumer-owners (MCOs) through sports as well as promote health and wellness.
GUIMELCO General Manager Shirley S. Laurente emphasized that the basketball league is not just a display of skill, strength and strategy in the court but a significant part of GUIMELCO’s health and wellness program.
“Through this initiative we aim to provide a healthy and active lifestyle among our employees and our valued member-consumer-owners,” she expressed in her opening remarks.
Neil E. Palencia, sports committee chairperson, led the oath of sportsmanship while Engr. Dennis de la Cruz read the rules of the game./PN
