Buenavista has highest active COVID-19 cases in Guimaras

BUENAVISTA – Of Guimaras’ five municipalities, this town has the most number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections.

As of May 11, it had 12 active cases – that’s 85.7 percent of the total 14 active cases in the island province, data from the provincial government showed.

The towns of Jordan and Sibunag had one active case each while San Lorenzo and Nueva Valencia had no active cases.

The 12 active cases of Buenavista were in the barangays of New Poblacion (seven), San Roque (two), Nazareth (two), and Umilig (one).

The sole active case in Jordan was in Barangay Sta. Teresa while that of Sibunag was in Barangay Milan.

Of the 14 active cases, 11 were in quarantine facilities in Guimaras while the three others were in Iloilo City.

Since March last year when the pandemic started, Guimaras recorded 422 cases (as of May 11). Four hundred already recovered while eight died.

According to the Department of Health, Guimaras had the least number of recorded cases among the provinces in Region 6.

Antique had 1,113 cases with 24 deaths, Aklan, 1,814 cases with 40 deaths; Capiz, 2,001 cases with 71 deaths; Iloilo, 6,184 cases with 178 deaths;, Iloilo City, 6,445 cases with 188 deaths; Bacolod City, 8,105 cases with 222 deaths; and Negros Occidental, 13,051 cases with 217 deaths./PN
