Buenavista to have new P60-M ferry terminal

ILOILO City – A world-class ferry terminal and wharf will soon rise in Buenavista, Guimaras.

Construction will cost some P60 million, said Mayor Eugenio Reyes.

The Buenavista wharf is one of two wharves in Guimaras (the other is in the town of Jordan) that serve motorboats ferrying people going to Iloilo City and back to the island province.

Construction may commence by January 2019, said Reyes.

On Nov. 4 a groundbreaking was led by Undersecretary Fernando Juan Perez of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Assistance Secretary Lino Dabi and President Rodrigo Duterte’s special assistant Christopher Go.

Reyes said P20 million has been allotted for the new ferry terminal while P40 million for the expansion of the wharf.

DOTr is funding this project.

“We are going to have a ferry terminal and wharf that would attract more local and foreign
tourists,” said Reyes.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin said tourists should feel secure when they enter Guimaras via a “presentable” Buenavista wharf./PN
