MANILA – The Buenavista girls volleyball team continued its reign in the Guimaras School Sports Council Meet. It captured its fifth consecutive secondary girls volleyball championship.
Led by team captain Charmainlove Talamera, the Jiggy Gallo-mentored Buenavista squad defeated Nueva Valencia, 25-12, 25-18, 20-25, 25-17.
Except in the third set, the Buenavista team was the aggressor in the other sets. It jumped to a quick double-digit lead before preventing Nueva Valencia from launching a late rally.
Prior to the championship, the Buenavista team had straight set victories with Guimaras PRISAA selection and Nueva Valencia.
Also part of the team were Rhea Mae Pama, Trisha Pillora, Rica Mae Cosio, Daniella Christie Ideal, Precious Tongol, Anne Grace Gabinete, Niña Beatrice Maluto, Zoe Joy Sapanza, Raiza Kaye Cordero, Lovely Jane Gabayeron, and Blessie Fernandez.
After ruling the Guimaras meet, the Buenavista squad will advance to the regional meet scheduled next year.
“We will be preparing hard for the regional meet,” said Gallo. “I am happy with our performance here but there are still things that we need to improve at ‘yun ang pagtutuunan namin ng pansin.”/PN
