ILOILO City – With the intensive anti-drug campaign of the present administration, the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Program already cleared over 86 percent of the total drug affected barangays in the municipality of Buenavista in Guimaras.
“May duha kita ka mga barangays nga gin-declared drug-free sang committee sang nagligad nga semana,” Mayor Eugenio Reyes told Panay News.
According to Reyes, barangays Getulio and Supang met the parameters set by the Dangerous Drugs Board.
“Out of 36 barangay may ara na kita 31 barangays nga drug-cleared,” said Reyes.
These villages were Agsanayan, Banban, Bacjao, Cansilayan, Dagsaan, Daragan, East Valencia, Getulio, Mabini, Magsaysay, McLain, Montpiller, Navalas, Nazaret, New Poblacion, Piña, Salvacion, San Fernando, San Isidro, San Miguel, San Nicolas, San Pedro, San Roque, Sawang, Supang, Tacay, Taminla, Tanag, Tastasan, Tinadtaran, and Umilig.
Meanwhile, the remaining five barangays that have yet to achieve the drug-cleared status were Santo Rosario, Old Poblacion, Avila, Zaldivar, and Rizal.
Reyes said these villages still have drug surenderees and they have yet to finish their rehabilitation.
The mayor plans to bring the surenderees to the Balay Silangan in Neuva Valencia, Guimaras to undergo orientation and rehabilitation for six months.
One of the parameters was the rehabilitation of drug surrenderers.
“Ginalauman nga pag-abot sang first quarter sang 2021, ma-declare na ang all 36 barangays sang Buenavista as drug cleared,” Reyes said.
The other parameters barangays must meet to achieve a drug-cleared status are the following:
* non-availability of illegal drugs
* absence of drug dens, pushers and users, protectors or financiers
* absence of clandestine drug laboratories, warehouses, marijuana cultivation sites
* no drug transit or transshipment activity
* active involvement of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in anti-drug activities
* conduct of drug awareness, preventive education and information campaign
* operation of voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk./PN
