ILOILO City – The P300-million Buhang flyover at the intersection of the Iloilo Circumferential Road and the Iloilo-Capiz Road (new route) in Jaro district will be opened to traffic on the last week of March.

The flyover’s approach in Barangay Balabago is already finished. What’s left for project contractor F. Gurrea Construction Inc. to complete are the barriers on the part of the flyover in Barangay Balabago.

Halos kumpleto na nila ang concreting. I think they are on target nga last week of March to be completed,” said Engineer Jose Al Fruto, assistant director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6.

Fruto, however, told Panay News it has yet to be confirmed whether President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will lead the flyover’s inauguration in April.

DPWH listed two-lane Buhang flyover as one of the high-impact projects in Western Visayas to be inaugurated by the President.

A high-impact project, Fruto said, is one that provides significant benefits and services to the public regardless of funding.

The Buhang flyover is expected to ease the traffic congestion at the intersection of the Iloilo Circumferential Road and the Iloilo-Capiz Road (new route) especially during rush hours.

Buhang flyover has a length of 340 linear meters and width of 10.34 meters.

Construction began in late 2020. The original target completion date was by the end of 2022. However, several weather disturbances delayed the sourcing of quarry materials./PN
