ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Legal Office, located on the third floor of the Iloilo provincial capitol, was burglarized on the morning of Monday, May 6, while employees were attending a flag-raising ceremony.

Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, head of the Provincial Legal Office, said the incident occurred when staff were participating in the flag ceremony on the capitol grounds.

A review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording showed a suspect, believed to be a woman wearing a facemask, entered the office shortly after 8 a.m. and remained inside for approximately five minutes.

“While we were all engaged in the flag ceremony, which was sponsored by the Legal Office, we normally do not lock the office,” Ventilacion explained to Panay News. “The CCTV footage shows someone entering the office and taking various items and employees’ bags.”

The precise number of cellphones and other equipment stolen is still being determined, as an inventory and assessment of the value of each gadget taken are ongoing.

Two employees of the Provincial Legal Office have reported being victims of the theft.

Investigations are continuing, with the provincial government working alongside Iloilo City Police Station 1 to identify the burglar.

Following the incident, Ventilacion has instructed Aaron Raymundo, assistant department head of the General Services Office (GSO) that manages the security of the provincial capitol, to enforce stricter security measures to prevent such incidents from recurring./PN
