ROXAS City – The Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) is bursting at the seams with cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Once the (RMPH) reaches full capacity, there will be no other option but to declare a ‘time out’ to allow the hospital to cater to patients already admitted, who deserve the best care available,” its management said in a statement over the weekend.
The hospital currently handles six critical COVID-19 cases, 27 severe cases and 18 moderate cases.
But there are six more COVID-19 patients at the Emergency Room and Triage Area waiting to be admitted.
The whole Capiz province had 482 actives COVID-19 cases as of May 29. Roxas City alone had 221.
RMPH could not admit more patients without compromising the level of care it gives to its patients and overwhelming its staff and personnel, the management stressed.
Two Capiz district hospitals – Bailan District Hospital and Mambusao District Hospital – that accept COVID-19 cases, too, were also reaching full capacity (20 coronavirus patients admitted).
Data presented by the Roxas City Government to support its request for a higher quarantine classification showed that four private hospitals in Capiz were also at full capacity:
* Capiz Doctors Hospital – 12
* Capiz Emmanuel Hospital – 10
* Saint Anthony College Hospital – eight
* The Health Centrum – three
The RMPH hospital management appealed for public cooperation.
“We…implore everyone to please refrain from leaving your homes unless absolutely necessary, and if you have to, please wear your facemasks and face shields properly, observe at least a one meter distance from other people, and avoid crowded places. We can win this fight if we work together,” it added./PN
