‘Unpaid players’: PBA team financially challenged?

BLIND ITEM: A PBA team is being tipped to bid the league adieu in the next few years as it is having a hard time paying for the salaries and the won-game bonuses of its players.

This is why the team is not renewing the contracts of its veteran players, especially if it is close to maximum, and not picking first-round players in the Draft, a source told Buzzer Beater.

“Ilang taon na lang siguro iyan sa PBA with the way they are treating the players.

With the continuing growth of duathlon in the country, the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TAP) is optimistic that it will be able to field a team in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games to be held in the country.

According to TAP secretary-general Tom Carrasco Jr., he is elated by the growing number of Filipinos interested in duathlon as shown by the record number of participants during the National Duathlon Championship in Subic recently.

“This augurs well for duathlon as we expect more athletes to go into the sport,” Carrasco said. “It is an event where we have been doing well even at the Asian level, and we can expect even better at the SEA Games level.”

Duathlon consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons. Duathlons are conducted at sprint, standard and long distances.

“We expect the number of Filipinos liking duathlon to increase in the next two years,” Carasco said. “By second quarter of 2018, we see that we can form a national duathlon team that we can send to international competitions.”/PN
