BVR: NegOcc pairs win openers in Dumaguete

THREE Negros Occidental-based pairs had a victorious start in the 2018 Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour on Monday at the Rizal Boulevard sand court in Dumaguete City.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos’ Erjane Magdato and Alexa Polidario handed the Dipolog duo of Angelina Damas and Grace Barrica a 21-2, 21-10 straight-set beating.

University of St. La Salle-Bacolod’s Mahriz Cosain and Bianca Lizares, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a win over fellow Bacolodnon pair of Jennymar Senares and Jennifer Cosas 23-21, 21-13.

Cosain and Lizares, however, struggled since then with a pair of losses to University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses’ Babylove Barbon and Genesa Eslapor (21-15, 21-14) and Perlas Lady Spikers’ Bea Tan and Charo Soriano (21-15, 21-14).

In the men’s category, USLS’ Deanne Neil Depedro and Harold Parcia – fresh from ruling the NOPSSCEA tertiary men’s beach volleyball last Sunday – split their two matches.

Depedro and Parcia first suffered a loss to Kris Roy Guzman and Krung Arbasto of Tiger Wings 19-21, 21-13, 12-15 before defeating Dumaguete’s Reynald Catipay and Buensuceso Sayson 24-22, 24-22.

Simon Aguillon – Depedro and Parcia’s head coach – and Living Stones International School’s Ralph Savellano suffered a 12-21, 26-28 defeat to UST’s Efraim Dimaculangan and Rancel Vergara.

This was the first time that the BVR staged a leg in Dumaguete City, which was celebrating its 70th Charter anniversary and fiesta./PN
