ILOILO City – A tanod (village watch) shot his son during an altercation in Barangay Ayaman, Cabatuan, Iloilo.
The son, 22-year-old Angelo Pillo, died of a gunshot wound in the neck.
His father, 49-year-old tanod commander Angel, was detained at the Cabatuan police station.
Angel used a 12-gauge shotgun on his son, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.
Angelo was binge drinking with friends and cousins at around 9 p.m. Tuesday when Angel arrived drunk, Tayaba said, citing initial investigation.
The father and son bickered over their drinking habits. Angelo also insulted his father in front of his friends, said Tayaba.
Angelo was taken to the Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital where he expired.
In a radio interview, Angel said he was angry at his son for disrespecting and embarrassing him in front of his friends. “He insulted me,” the elder Pillo said.
Angel claimed that he even sat next to his son and asked the latter to show him some respect.
“Maayo akon pag-estorya sa iya pero ginpakahuy-an niya ako,” said the father. “Kon kaisa ginapanipa niya kami ni nanay niya.”
“Indi ko gusto nga amuhon niya kami sina kay ginpakaon ko man sia. Sobra na gid ang ginahimo niya sa akon,” he added.
Angel disclosed that, during a heated argument last month, he already warned his son that he would “kill” him if he continued to insult him./PN
