BACOLOD City – Another suspect in a string of cable theft incidents in this city was arrested.
The 38-year-old Neil Celestre, of Barangay Mansilingan was caught on Araneta Street in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Police Captain Glenn Montaño, station commander of Police Station 8, said operatives from the Bacolod City Mobile Force Company chanced upon Celestre and two other unidentified accomplices cutting cable wires.
The two suspects immediately bolted after spotting the cops.
Some P13,000 worth of cable wire was seized.
Police are now hunting down the two other suspects, while Celestre is facing theft charges.
Last week, a suspected cable thief was also arrested.
Alias “Boy Kable” told police: “Sa Bacolod, ti damo gid ya gapang-utod kable…sa amon ya [grupo] diutay lang…daw may mga gang, mag-operate ka dapat ara kamo sa apat ukon tatlo,”
He added: “Ang iban daw ka organized na gid ya kay pwede sila ka-operate nga adlaw kay may mga [conterfeit] uniform kag ID [of telecommunication companies] sila.”
Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director Police Colonel Noel Aliño said he would summon junk shop operators in the city after “Boy Kable” revealed that they melt down copper from the stolen cable then sell this to junk shops./PN
