SAN JOSE, Antique – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Antique granted Gov. Rhodora Cadiao the authority to enter into a Confidentiality Agreement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Philippines for the procurement of vaccines for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The authority was a prerequisite for Antique to make vaccine reservations and purchases, said SP member Fernando Corvera Sr.
SP member Pio Jessielito Sumande Sr., on the other hand, noted that other provinces have already conducted or are conducting COVID-19 vaccination simulations.
Dr. Leoncio Abiera Jr., Integrated Provincial Health Officer 1, said AstraZeneca requires a Confidentiality Agreement but assured the SP that “what we will be doing is for the good and benefit of the Antiqueño people.”
Once the vaccines arrive, local health workers will administer them to the people, he added.
Abiera said the province is ready with a P58.9-million fund to acquire the vaccines.
The fund came from the P10-million allocation of the provincial government and P48 million pledges from 17 of the 18 municipalities of the province. (PNA)
