BACOLOD City – Preparations are underway for the 49th Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental from Jan. 21 to 29.

Cadiz City mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said they are expecting a large number of tourists after two years of restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Several music bands and a K-pop group will be holding concerts, he added.

Escalante decided to resume the festival after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. encouraged local government units to celebrate their respective festivals again during last year’s successful MassKara Festival in Bacolod City.

Escalante said they will also adopt some of the events and activities held during the MassKara Festival.

The Dinagsa Festival was first held in 1972 and was coined after an event in 1967 when a number of whales gathered on Cadiz City’s shores.

It is a week-long celebration in honor of Señor Santo Niño de Cadiz, the city’s patron saint./PN
