BACOLOD City – The newly-constructed lighthouse, or “parola,” in Barangay Banquerohan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental was inaugurated and turned over to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday, Jan. 24.

It is situated in the middle of the sea, 100 meters away from the two-hectare Cadiz City Commercial Port.

The new “parola” will play a vital role in the flourishing fishing industry, among other business ventures in Cadiz, said Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr.

“It’s our new beacon of hope,” he stressed as the new lighthouse signals that Cadiz is beyond ready to welcome more investors—whether on land or sea.

The mayor also noted its tourism value, as it attracts a large number of people during the night.

The construction of the new “parola” was worth around P10 million. It is surrounded by giant armor rocks to withstand bad weather and big waves, among other sea atrocities.

Escalante said the new structure will cement the formidable partnership between the city and PCG.

“And it’s deemed necessary to construct such to proceed to the final decommissioning of the old parola situated at the mouth of the Hitalon river,” the mayor explained.

The commissioning of the new “parola,” not only here in the country but also internationally, will commence once it is registered.

Captain Weniel Azuna, commander of the Coast Guard District Western Visayas, accepted the lighthouse during the turn-over.

Azcuna commended and thanked Escalante for pursuing the construction of the new Cadiz “parola.” It symbolizes hope and progress in Cadiz, he said.

The new lighthouse will also complement the city’s newest investment and tourism branding, “Cadiz City: Land of Splendid Opportunities.”/PN
