Cadiz under Alert Level 1; IATF makes mayor anxious

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – Cadiz City mayor Salvador Escalante was happy yet also anxious that his city was added to the list of towns and cities in Negros Occidental placed on pandemic Alert Level 1 beginning yesterday until June 30.

According to Escalante, he was happy that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) downgraded the city’s alert level; it is an acknowledgement of all of their hard work as well as the growing number of vaccinated residents.

However, Escalante said, he is worried, too, that the lifting of some restrictions would result to a spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

He is particularly concerned of social gatherings; puroks in the city could now hold fiestas.

Aside from Cadiz City, the other areas placed under Alert Level 1 by the IATF in Negros Occidental are the cities of Sagay, Victorias, La Carlota and the towns of Candoni, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, and San Enrique.

The province’s capital, Bacolod City, was also placed under Alert Level 1.

The rest of Negros Occidental, meanwhile, remain under Alert Level 2./PN
