ILOILO City – Forty officials of Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro visited this city and pilot barangays in the metropolis to learn practices in disaster preparedness.
The visit showed the city’s growing reputation as a benchmark capital and favorite destination for study tours of both public and private sectors, said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
“We have picked up very important ideas and definitely we will replicate the things we have learned,” said Calapan City’s Mayor Arnan Panaligan.

Calapan’s City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Nelson Aboboto said they learned practices of Iloilo City’s CDRRMO such as involving person with disabilities (PWDs), dissemination of information and obtaining volunteers.
Newly-installed Iloilo City CDRRMO chief Donna Magno answered queries of visiting officials during an open forum following a presentation of the city’s disaster management by Lester Mark Carnaje of the Public Information Office.
The May 12 visit aimed to widen the knowledge of Calapan City officials basing on the disaster risk resiliency practices and campaigns of CDRRMO Iloilo City during times of calamities.
City Administrator Hernando C. Galvez and city officials welcomed the guests while heads of City Engineer’s Office, Internal Audit, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), City Social Welfare and Development Office and City Tourism and Development Office exchanged insights with their counterparts for future collaborations.
