Calinog imposes curfew on minors

ILOILO – Longer curfew hours were reimposed in the 3rd District’s Calinog town.

Mayor Francisco Calvo issued Executive Order (EO) No. 2023-17 revising EO No. 2022-63 and mandating a curfew on minors from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. effective March 14.

Since the easing of pandemic restrictions, minors gradually returned to the streets and got involved in illegal or unruly activities, noted Calvo.

The mayor recalled a 2 a.m. motorcycle accident involving some minors.

“The ending of pandemic restrictions caused a drastic increase in crime rate and vehicular accidents involving minors,” read part of the order.

Youngsters 17 years old and below will not be allowed to go out of their homes from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. except for the following circumstances:

    * Emergencies – whenever a minor is in need of medical attention, he/she should be accompanied by an adult

    * Travel to and from airports or seaports – minors should present their tickets if they are to travel from home to ports or vice versa during curfew hours, but must be accompanied by an adult

    * Events open to all by the municipality – minors are allowed to witness events hosted by the municipality provided they are accompanied by adults, but only until 10 p.m.

The Philippine National Police, Calinog Task Force, punong barangays and officials, and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development were tasked to enforce the curfew.

Violators will be apprehended along with their parents and subjected to counseling and other applicable penalties.

“Kabay pa nga ang aton mga ginikanan magbulig sa pagtipon ka anda kabataan sa anda tagsa ka panimalay…Kita tanan magbuylog para proteksyunan ang aton mga kabataan kag mapadayon ang kalinog kag katawhay ka aton nga komunidad,” said Calvo./PN
