ILOILO City – A robbery complaint would be filed against one of the two robbers who carted away P1.5 million in a broad daylight heist of a money remittance center in Barangay Poblacion Centro, Calinog, Iloilo.
Calinog police chief, Police Captain Dadje Delima, confirmed that the case would be filed on Aug. 2 before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Two witnesses came forward to identify one of the suspects, Delima said.
He added that the identified suspect has pending criminal cases to include robbery that happened in the neighboring towns.
“We could not divulge his name yet because he remains at large, but our two witnesses that included the employee and a bystander near the crime scene identified him despite him wearing a facemask. We have to withhold the name of our witnesses for their security protection,” Delima said.
Police was monitoring the suspect, and a manhunt operation would be launched as soon as the arrest warrant is handed down.
The police also believed that there were other persons behind the incident.
On July 10, one of the armed men barged into Western Union around 8 a.m. after cashier Gladys Almirante opened the office.
At gun point, she was ordered to hand over all the cash inside their vault. For fear that she would be harmed she gave the money to the gunman.
The gunman then tied Almirante’s hands, covered her mouth with a packing tape, then brought her to the comfort room where she passed out after being made to smell a handkerchief believed to have been laced with some chemicals.
Police said an accomplice with a motorcycle was apparently waiting outside. The suspect quickly fled using a red motorcycle./PN
