ILOILO City – The first day of the local campaign period in Western Visayas opened peacefully, with no major security threats reported, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
PRO-6 spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis said the situation across the region remained normal as of their latest monitoring.
“We are hopeful that all campaign activities in different areas of Western Visayas will remain orderly,” Solis said in an interview.
While the region is under “normal” alert status, Solis stressed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its presence in key areas through enhanced visibility and Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints.
“We have not detected any immediate threats to peace and order, but our efforts continue,” he said. “We have maximized police visibility in strategic areas and are conducting Comelec checkpoints in key locations.”
He added that the PNP’s routine law enforcement operations remain in full force, particularly efforts against illegal drugs, wanted persons, and loose firearms — measures seen as critical to ensuring overall safety during the election period.
With campaign activities expected to pick up in the coming days, PRO-6 called on candidates and their supporters to strictly observe election-related regulations and avoid disrupting public order. Authorities also encouraged the public to immediately report any untoward incidents or election-related concerns to the nearest police station./PN
