CALUYA, Antique – In line with Mayor Genevive Lim Reyes’ drive to transform the used-to-be sleepy island municipality into another tourism hub, tourists and visitors coming for the Tatusan Festival here (Thursday to Saturday this week) may opt for a choice of two inter-island tour packages: either a one-day tour of Sibay Island or a two-day tour of Sibay plus the other white-sand islands of Sibolo and Sibato.
The three-day celebration of the Tatusan Festival in Caluya will start in the morning of Thursday (May 18) with an inaugural mass at the chapel and blessing of Circumferential Road.
The day-long activities will also include a photo-art exhibit, agro-industrial fair, “hurma-baras” or sculpting or objects out of sand, and the “Battle of the Bands,” a music competition among Caluya’s professional bands.
The second day will see young pupils from 10 elementary schools beating drums and lyre in the “Drum and Lyre Corps” competition.
The rest of the day will showcase the “Laro ng Lahi” and the “DJ Night/Beach Party.”
On the third day, tourists and visitors may march on the streets and rub elbows with the “Tribu Tatusan” replicating the “best performance” it had shown at Iloilo Dinagyang’s “Kasadyahan” three years in a row.
Other activities include “Bugsay sa Baybay,” “Panguyang sa Baybay,” “Awarding Ceremonies,” “Fireworks” and the much-awaited comedy-dance-song presentation “Laugh Out Loud,” starring showbiz celebrities Rodjun Cruz, Miss Tres, Lita Martinez and Dante Beriong.
The Sibay tour covers the Laking Landos archeological site, the Bacong View Deck, the Janairo ancestral home with backyard for horseback riding, the Bonbon Cave, the Tara-Tara Cove and a boat cruise allowing participants to hook fish along the 1.7-kilometer Magtang River.
The two-day group tour includes all of the above plus snorkeling and swimming off Sibolo and Sibato islands.
