MANILA – Aiming to snap its losing skid in the PBA Governors’ Cup, Blackwater Elite tapped former NBA player Henry Walker as import.
Walker is replacing Trevis Simpson, who will be out for the rest of the conference due to a groin injury, Team Manager Johnson Martinez confirmed.
“We were forced to replace Trevis because he sustained a groin injury during our previous match,” Martinez said. “We are just waiting for Henry’s release papers from his previous team, and then we’re good to go.”
For his part, Simpson said he is very much willing to give way to Walker as he might take time to recover from the injury that worsened during the game against San Miguel Beermen last Saturday.
“If they have to bring in someone, I’ll understand that completely,” he said. “I don’t know how long I’m gonna be out. If they have to do it, I understand that.”
Walker, who had stints with Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Miami Heat in the NBA, is on his third tour of duty in the PBA after previously suiting up for Alaska Aces and NLEX Road Warriors.
In the 2014 Governors’ Cup, the 29-year-old Walker averaged 21.40 points, 8.93 rebounds and 5.60 assists per game to help Alaska reach the semifinal.
Blackwater – currently last in the standings (0-3) – hopes to barge into the win column on Sunday when it plays Phoenix Fuel Masters./PN
