ILOILO – The Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) is strengthening the implementation of its “1 Million Kahoy” project through collaboration with other agencies.

For one, CaPENRO sought the support of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) which in return, through its OIC Provincial Coconut Development Manager Andy O. Laurilla, committed to planting 28,580 seedlings of coconut in the province.

The massive and collective tree planting, now in its fifth year, is spearheaded by CaPENRO as part of its Go Green Capiz campaign toward an ecologically sustainable and resilient province.

The project started in 2018 as One Million Trees in One Day Project and 2019, it was named One Million Trees in One Day Challenge.

In 2020, the massive tree growing was renamed to 1Million Kahoy Project up to the present.

The provincial environment office is hopeful that all the national, provincial, and local government offices will support this undertaking.

Just recently, to strengthen manpower support, CaPENRO also had a meeting with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 wherein discussed during the meeting was the Risk Resiliency Program thru Cash for Work Activities for Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM-DRR) in support for this year’s 1M Kahoy Project and other environmental sustainability programs./PN
