MANILA – Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers clinched their inaugural franchise victory by defeating the Strong Group Athletics (SGA), 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Jorelle Singh made a significant impact with 13 points, consisting of 12 attacks and one block, earning her the Player of the Game accolade as the Solar Spikers advanced to a 1-2 win-loss record in the standings.

Negrense Patty Jane Orendain added nine markers, Arianne Layug and Ja Lana ended with eight markers apiece, while Cathrina DIzon contributed six points for the Solar Spikers.

Following a failure to secure the match in the third set, the Solar Spikers engaged in a closely contested battle with SGA in the fourth frame, with the latter ultimately clinching the win thanks to well-timed connections from Layug.

“Syempre masaya kasi alam niyo naman itong team na ito less than two months pa lang kami. Every day, every practice, every game is a learning process for us” said Capital1 head coach Roger Gorayeb.

Mary Joy Onofre top-scored with 12 points, Dolly Verzosa added 11 markers, while Jana Cane, Sheeka Espinosa, Justine Rebleza and Merry Rose Jauculan combined for 31 points as SGA dropped to 0-3.

Meanwhile, Akari Power Chargers have finally barged into the win column with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Farm Fresh Foxies. Both teams now have an identical 1-2 win-loss slate.

Gretchel Soltones led the way with 16 points on 13-of-25 attacks, two aces, and a block, to go along with 10 excellent receptions, while Negrense Christine Joy Soyud and Erika Raagas ended with 14 and 10 markers, respectively, for Akari.

Despite the absence of Faith Nisperos, the Power Chargers did not need much time to light it up, racing to a 25-19 first set before blowing out the Foxies in the second frame, 25-15.

The Foxies, however, found their groove in the third set and even took a 20-18 lead before Soltones, Mereophe Sharma, and Michelle Cobb joined forces for the Power Chargers to turn things around./PN
