BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government is expected to release starting July 15 the pay increase of its employees under the second tranche of the Salary Standardization Law 4 (SSL 4).
Provincial Board member Salvador Escalante Jr., chairman of the committee on appropriations, budget, finance, ways and means, said in a report Thursday the allocation amounts to P70 million.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.’s request for authority to release the salary increase of about 2,000 employees.
Unlike last year, when the first tranche was released, the 2017 salary increase would not be retroactive to January, Escalante explained.
He said the increase for January to June cannot be included since it would make the provincial government go beyond the 45-percent Personal Services (PS) ceiling.
“This is not allowed so we only have to implement the increase from July to December,” Escalante said, adding that the P70 million will be sourced from the PS savings for 2017.
The Board member pointed out that the monthly increase would be based on the employee’s salary grade, and those with high salary grades may get a higher raise but would also incur higher tax deductions.
Escalante said they aim to release the third tranche of salary increase early next year, although this would still depend on the Internal Revenue Allotment share of the provincial government. (PNA)
