ILOILO City – An employee of the Iloilo provincial government failed an unannounced drug test conducted during a symposium of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6.
The Human Resource Office has yet to inform this employee about the test result, according to office chief Alma Ravena.
“Out of 100 capitol employees who were tested, only one turned positive for illegal drugs,” said Ravena.
She declined to name the employee but said it was a male.
The employee will be given the chance to challenge the test result.
The drug test was conducted on May 24. Urine samples were taken from 100 capitol employees.
If the employee will challenge the result, a confirmatory test will be held in Metro Manila.
“He has the right to challenge the test result,” said Ravena.
She also said the provincial government will be following the guidance of the Civil Service Commission in handling the employee’s case.
Illegal drug use is a ground for termination from government service. An employee’s benefits may be forfeited.
The Provincial Health Office may also step into the picture.
“We still have to discuss with PHO kon ano ang mga programs dira,” said Ravena./PN
