BACOLOD City – Vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were delivered to four government-run hospitals in Negros Occidental.

Zeaphard Caelian, head of the Provincial Incident Management Team, said the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City received 400 vials of China-based Sinovac Biotech’s CoronaVac vaccines, while 317 were allotted to the Cadiz District Hospital in Cadiz City.

Meanwhile, 68 CoronaVac vials and seven doses from AstraZeneca were delivered to the Valladolid District Hospital, while Kabankalan District Hospital received 92 vials of CoronaVac vaccines and 15 doses of AstraZeneca’s.

Over the weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard’s patrol ship BRP Cape Engaño carrying 2,590 vials of CoronaVac vaccines arrived in Bacolod City.

The vaccines were immediately brought to the cold storage facility of the Provincial Health Office on Gatuslao Street, Bacolod City.

Caelian said the provincial government already received a total 5,180 doses of CoronaVac vaccines from the national government.

The province kicked-off its vaccination program last week, wherein 10 doctors and two nurses were inoculated.

Earlier, a list of medical personnel from capitol-run hospitals has been submitted to the Department of Health in Region 6.

The number of doses that would be given to the province will depend on the number of frontliners who have signified their willingness to be inoculated.

Negros Occidental has around 8,000 medical frontliners serving in various provincial-run hospitals and clinics in 31 local government units./PN
