ILOILO City – The Archdiocese of Capiz warned the public against the proliferation of fake solicitation letters using the names of the archdiocese’s retired priest and a present officer.
In an advisory, Archdiocese of Capiz chancellor, Fr. Dedert Duarte, said they received reports that the names of Fr. Deodito Batiles, a retired priest from Capiz, and Msgr. Cyril Villareal, Capiz Archdiocesan administrator, were being used in fake solicitation letters.
“In case of doubt or suspicion of fraud, please contact the chancery of the Archdiocese of Capiz at 0919-801-4754 or email us at capizarchdiocese@gmail.com,” read part of the advisory.
Investigation continues as to who is/are behind this modus.
According to reports, this is not the first time the Archdiocese’s name and the names of some church officials have been used to solicit bogus donations./PN
