Capiz capitol allots P11-M for coronavirus vaccines

ROXAS City – The provincial government of Capiz has allotted P11 million for the procurement of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines should these become available next year.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Capiz passed Appropriation Ordinance No. 103-2020 for the said purpose.

According to Vice Gov. James “Mitang” Magbanua, the ordinance was authored by Provincial Board member Jonathan Besa.

The fund to be utilized for the purchase of the vaccine will be taken from the savings of the province from 2017 and 2018, and the 2019 20-percent Development Fund.

The legislative body earlier passed Resolution No. 383-2020 encouraging the 17 local government units (LGUs) of Capiz including Roxas City “to earmark a portion from their 2021 Budget for the purchase of vaccines against COVID-19 to be used by their constituents.”

Magbanua said the legislative body believes that allotting a fund for healthcare of the people during the pandemic is a priority.

The SP cited the possible high cost of the vaccine which the ordinary Capiznons may not be able to afford.

“Ini ang rason nga kinahanglan sang mga LGUs makapain sang pundo para makabulig sa pagpahagan-hagan sa paglapta sang virus,” the vice governor said./PN
