ROXAS City – A total of 10,348 blood units have been collected in Capiz from January to Oct. 24.
These blood units could fill in 22 drums which can hold up to 208 liters each.
The Philippine Red Cross – Capiz Chapter donor recruitment officer Ketch Armiza said the collected blood is equal to 1.31 percent of the province’s total population.
“Eleven municipalities have already reached their respective target of blood units collection which is one percent of their population,” added Armiza.
The town of Dumalag remains to be the top performer with 923 blood units collected so far this year, or 3.03 percent of its recorded population.
It has been the champion of the annual Blood Olympics program of the Department of Health and Red Cross in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Armiza said three more towns could reach their targets based on the calendar of mass blood donations in November and December.
In 2017, the province-wide voluntary blood donation has facilitated the collection of 11,315 blood units that made Capiz as the top performing province in the region. (With a report from PIA/PN
