CAPIZ – There are now 12 firecracker blast injuries in this province, data from the Capiz Provincial Health Office as of Jan. 3 showed.
The cases were from the towns of Tapaz, with three; Ivisan, Panitan and Roxas City, with two each; and one each from Jamindan, Mambusao and Sigma.
Particularly, nine people got blast or burn injuries; two got eye injuries, and one lost a finger.
Meanwhile, three of the firecracker injuries were caused by boga or improvised hand-held cannon; another three cases were due to whistle bombs; and one each was caused by a five-star, a fountain, and a triangle. There were three injuries caused by unknown firecrackers.
The Department of Health has been advocating against using firecrackers to celebrate the holidays, especially New Year. Musical instruments and other less dangerous objects that can make noise are preferred./PN
