Capiz firecracker-related injuries increases by 90%

ROXAS City – Data from the Department of Health (DOH) – Capiz shows an apparent 90 percent increase in firecracker-related injuries in 2018, when compared to 2017.

According to the latest DOH data, the firecracker victims in the province reached 40, compared to 21 victims in 2017.

Records showed Roxas City has the highest number of fire cracker related injuries in the province with a total of 11, followed by the municipality of Tapaz (8), Cuartero (3), Dao (3), Pontevedra (3), and Panitan (3), Jamindan (2), Mambusao (2), and Maayon (2) towns.

Thirty-five of the victims were male and five where female, records showed.

Most of the victims sustained blast burns – no amputation incidents were recorded –with most victims reportedly intoxicated, the DOH report claims.

Eight out of the 40 fire cracker victims used “libentador” firecrackers, seven victims used whistle bomb, six used kwitis and kamara, five used boga, and the rest used luces and “5 star” firecrackers./PN
