CAPIZ – Around 30 fisherfolks here underwent an orientation and training on Fisheries Law Enhancement and Enforcement from Sept. 21 to 29.
It was a collective endeavor of the provincial government of Capiz in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Capiz (BFAR-Capiz) and Sentro Para sa Ikauunlad ng Katutubong Agham at Teknolohiya (SIKAT) Inc., conducted in preparation for the operation of the Provincial Bantay Dagat.
Headed by Provincial Fisheries Officer Edwin Candelario Javier, the three-day training enriched the knowledge of the participants on Republic Act 10654, the law amending the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, on the scientific examination of fish caught through illegal fishing like dynamite fishing, other fishery laws and local ordinances, and the filing of cases against illegal fishers.
The protection of the coastal resources against illegal fishing operations through the establishment of the province’s own Bantay Dagat Task Force and Capiz Fishery Law Enforcement Management Council is one of the priorities of the provincial government.
