CAPIZ – The province now has a foundation tasked with overseeing the Capiztahan Festival and managing all activities related to the celebrations.
Gov. Fredenil Castro convened the initial members of the Maragtas Capiz Foundation with Jose Nery Ong as president, Mark Ortiz as secretary and Danny So Chan as treasurer.
Among the topics discussed is the Balik Capiz (Come Home/Back to Capiz) program that encourages Capiznons residing in other parts of the Philippines and the world to go back to the province.
The program is set to launch in May, simultaneous with the celebration of National Heritage Month to be hosted by Capiz.
The province also aims to boost its tourism and economy and be known as the Festival Capital of the Philippines.
Stakeholders of the foundation were set to convene again on March 28 to finalize its objectives and structures, as well as its Securities and Exchange Commission registration.
Castro stressed he doesn’t want any politician, including himself, to be a part of the foundation but assured of his full support for the foundation./PN
