Capiz guv orders suspension of classes

ROXAS City – Classes in all levels in Capiz were suspended on Dec. 3 due to typhoon “Tisoy.”

Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras in Provincial Declaration No. 2, declared the temporary suspension of classes in all levels, both in private and public schools in the province due to the expected onslaught of typhoon “Tisoy.”

Contreras said the provincial government was mandated to promote the general welfare of its people at all times, especially during disasters and calamities, and to undertake proactive measures to mitigate the possible effects of such adverse weather condition.

On Dec. 2, classes were also suspended in the 17 towns of the province due to the impending threat of the typhoon.

“The mayors know better the situation with respect to the declaration of suspension of classes in their locality,” Contreras said, adding the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, through its chair can also override the declaration of the mayors.

Since 2 p.m. of Dec. 2 up to this writing, Capiz was placed under Signal No. 2 per Severe Weather Bulletin No. 11 issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.(With a report from PIA/PN)
