Capiz guv to PWDs: ‘Don’t allow yourself to be enslaved in wheelchair or in bed’

CAPIZ – Gov. Fredenil H. Castro encouraged persons with disability (PWDs) in Western Visayas to overcome their physical limitations.

The governor served as the keynote speaker during the second day of the 3rd PWDs Regional Congress 2024 on July 4.

With the theme, “Disability Economics Investing in Disability, Empowering Person with Disability,” the three-day congress began on July 3 and concluded yesterday.

“Rise to the occasion. Do not allow yourself to be enslaved in a wheelchair or in bed. Allow yourself to be an inspiration in life because you are still living and as long as you live, there is life in you. Disability is only a matter of perception,” Gov. Castro told the participants from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.

For her part, Atty. Luvim D. Amores, the provincial information officer and Human Resource Management Office concurrent head, expressed gratitude to all those who attended the congress to show support for PWDs.

“Our disabilities will not hinder us in achieving our goals” Amores added.

Also attending the congress were National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) Executive Director III Glenda D. Delova, Maayon’s Mayor Raymond D. Malapajo, president of the League of the Municipalities of the Philippines-Capiz Chapter; Roxas City’s Councilor Jaime Altavas; and Capiz Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Nieva Camposano, among others.

Among the topics discussed during the congress were Disability Economics, Accessible Tourism, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) updates and Health and Wellness Program for PWDs, and Employment Program, among others./PN
