ROXAS City – Health officials from local government units, as well as government and private hospitals in Capiz support President Rodrigo Duterte’s Freedom of Information (FOI).

In a recent briefing on FOI for health educators and promotions officers and program managers of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), they pledged to provide the public with accurate and timely information.

“[Through] the FOI briefing, we [were made] aware what kind of information we have and [don’t have] to disclose to the public,” said PHO head Dr. Samuel Delfin.

Local government units must have in place policies catering to the information needs of the public, Delfin stressed.

Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) No. 2, series of 2016 (Freedom of Information Order) on July 23, 2016.

The EO operationalizes in the executive branch the people’s constitutional right to information and the state policies to full public disclosure and transparency in public service.

Under the FOI Order, request for information — except for those specified as “exceptions” — may be made in all agencies under the executive branch, including government-owned and -controlled corporations, and state universities and colleges.

The FOI briefing was part of the first-quarter consultative meeting and program implementation review of the PHO’s Health Advocacy and Promotion Unit.

Earlier the Philippine Information Agency provided a similar orientation among members of the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers. (PIA/PN)
