CAPIZ – The Department of Education (DepEd) – Capiz hosted this year’s Brigada Eskwela regional kick-off program on Aug. 8.

Brigada Eskwela, established in 2003, is a schools maintenance program nationwide that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, efforts and resources in ensuring that public schools are all set in time for class opening.

It aims to address resource gaps faced by DepEd through strengthening partnerships with the local communities.

The activity held at Villareal Stadium in Roxas City was also participated by the provincial government of Capiz headed by Gov. Fredenil Castro.

Anchored on the theme “Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik Aral,” Brigada Eskwela highlights the country’s collective effort to create safe learning environments for students, teaching and non-teaching personnel while ensuring the delivery of quality education.

Castro said Capiz is all prepared for in-person classes, citing the meetings he had with school administrators, Philippine National Police, Barangay Health Workers, local government officials and other stakeholders.

Also during the Brigada Eskwela launching, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) turned over laptops and reading materials to select schools in the region.

USAID also trained teachers on teaching reading to students.

The regional kick off of the 2022 Brigada Eskwela was also joined by Capiz vice governor James Magbanua; Provincial Board’s Committee on Education chairperson Thea Faith Reyes, Roxas City’s Mayor Ronnie Dadivas; Capiz Schools Division Superintendent Miguel Mac Aposin; Director III, Officer –in- charge from the Office of Regional Director, Dr. Pedro Ecobarte Jr., CESO; Director III Edel Carag; and representatives of various partners and stakeholders from others provinces in the region./PN
