ROXAS City – The Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital Out-Patient Department Molecular Laboratory was inaugurated on Tuesday.

It will analyze specimens from people for possible coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

Recently, the facility passed the proficiency test conducted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine – Department of Health (RITM-DOH).

The blessing of the facility was officiated by Reverend Father Romel Darundon.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by DOH regional director Marlyn Convocar and Capiz governor Esteban Evan Contreras.

Convocar said DOH will release a P1.5-million assistance to the facility (for the personal protective equipment and other needs of medical technologists and pathologists working).

For his part, Contreras said the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital Out-Patient Department Molecular Laboratory will serve not only Capiz’s 16 towns but also Roxas City and local government units in northern Iloilo province, and private hospitals.

This COVID-19 test laboratory is the 12th in Western Visayas./PN
