ILOILO City – All persons from any area in Western Visayas under general community quarantine status or lower no longer need to present a medical clearance certificate (MCC) when entering Capiz.

The rule was lifted on Aug. 24 after Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras issued Order No. 20-F, Series of 2020.

Contreras said in his directive that it was the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) who requested him to not to require a MCC to travellers who will enter Capiz.

Last week, Mayor Jerry Treñas threatened to sue the provincial government of Capiz for imposing border restrictions to curtail the spread of coronavirus disease 2019.

The guidelines issued by the Capiz provincial government that time considered travelers from this city as locally stranded individuals and thus must undergo a 14-day quarantine.

These also set requirements, including the presentation of a valid identification, a letter of acceptance from the local government of the intended destination and a MCC.

Treñas also slammed the Capiz capitol for allegedly prohibiting the entry of cargoes and essential
supplies from Iloilo City – Region 6’s center of commerce and industry.

“If the border restrictions nga ginbutang nila sa cargoes from Iloilo going to Capiz will not be taken out, we are going to file a formal criminal complaint,” warned Treñas.

These measures, according to Treñas, were not in the guidelines of the RIATF.

The mayor also expressed his readiness to implement travel restriction to Capiznons if the RIATF fails to resolve the border restriction imposed by Contreras.

Kung indi na ma-resolve, ti medyo delikado kay ang taga Capiz siguro indi kasulod sa siyudad kag indi man kapangumpra diri.  Whatever they will do to us, I will do to them. Indi man ina pwede nga one way lang,” Treñas said during a radio interview./PN
