Capiz logs 5 dengue deaths

CAPIZ – The province of Capiz logged a total of five fatalities due to dengue from January 1 to December 17 this year.

The deaths were 0.53 percent of the 940 total dengue cases in the province.

Based on the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Dengue Case Bulletin, three of the dengue deaths were logged in Roxas City and one each in President Roxas and Pontevedra towns.

Data further show that this year’s 940 total cases as of Dec. 17 were 270.08 percent higher than the 254 dengue cases recorded in the same period last year.

Roxas City had also the most number of dengue cases at 294.

Other municipalities and their respective number of cases were: Jamindan (107); Tapaz (86); Dao (74); Pontevedra (72); Mambusao (41); Sigma (36); Panay (33); Dumarao (31); Cuartero and Sapian (29 each); Maayon (23); Panit-an (19); President Roxas, Pilar, and Dumalag (17 each), and Ivisan (15).

The PHO recorded clustering dengue cases in Poblacion, Tapaz.

The health office reminded the public to continue implementing the 4S strategy to prevent the spread of dengue – search and destroy the mosquito breeding places; secure self-protection from mosquito bites; seek early consultation; say yes to fogging in areas with clustering of cases./PN
