Capiz mayoral candidate dies after alleged attack by brother

CAPIZ – A 60-year-old man seeking mayoral post in the May 2025 midterm elections in Dumalag town here was killed following an alleged attack by his younger brother in the town’s Barangay Duran on Sunday, November 17.

Dumalag police said Jose Sonny Felarca reportedly got into a heated argument with his younger brother, Walter Felarca, 58. Both were residents of the said barangay.

The confrontation escalated when Walter allegedly attacked his brother with a bladed weapon, police added.

Jose Sonny sustained severe injuries to his head and other parts of the body. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The suspect fled after the incident but later surrendered to authorities with the help of a barangay official.

As of this writing, the suspect was under police custody.

Dumalag police were still investigating the incident while charges were being prepared against the suspect./PN
