CAPIZ – The Capiz Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) recommended placing the province under a state of calamity because of massive flooding due to tropical depression Agaton.
During the Tuesday meeting led by Capiz Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras as chairman, the council unanimously approved the resolution by placing the whole province under a state of calamity.
In the meeting, various departments such as the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Provincial Agriculture Office, and Provincial Engineerās Office reported the extent of damage to the people, agriculture, and infrastructures in the province as the basis of the declaration.
The resolution will be submitted for approval to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Contreras is hopeful that this will be given importance by the SP especially since thousands of affected Capiznons need assistance.
As of April 12, a total of 161 barangays from 17 towns in Capiz including Roxas City were affected by flooding.
Families displaced by the flood also reached 4,070 or a total of 18,764 Individuals./PN
