Capiz police on their toes, urge vigilance

“We cannot take for granted the possibilities of terrorism because of the economic growth and development in Capiz,” says Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, provincial police director.

ROXAS City – Police in Capiz are preparing for major peace and order threats in light of armed attacks in other parts of the region and the country.

They are “intensifying intelligence and monitoring efforts in close coordination with other government agencies and organizations,” according to Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion.

“We cannot take for granted the possibilities of terrorism because of the economic growth and development in Capiz,” said the provincial police director.

Nacion did not say if there is any imminent threat to Capiz but warned that lawless elements will attack at any given opportunity.

In addition, he said, vigilance is one of the best weapons against any threat to peace and security.

“The public has a vital role in our peace and order, as well as security – by cooperating and providing the authorities with proper information on lawless elements,” said Nacion.

Armed clashes between government troops and rebels recently occurred in Iloilo province. Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat was bombed twice this month.

Just this Monday a bomb was detonated 100 meters away from a Philippine Coast Guard station in Masbate province.

The Police Regional Office 6 allayed fears that these attacks would spill over to Western Visayas.

“We remain on top of the situation to ensure peace and order in Western Visayas,” said Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, police regional director.

For the part of the Capiz police, they are conducting “target-hardening measures in areas of convergence, vital installations and economic depots,” as well as “patrol operation and coordination with barangays,” Nacion said. (With a report from Philippine Information Agency/PN)
