Capiz provincial treasurer dies of COVID

ROXAS City – The provincial treasurer of Capiz tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and died in the hospital.

Wendy Sustento was brought to the hospital Monday night due to difficulty of breathing. She died past 6.a.m. yesterday.

She was a great loss to the provincial government, said Dr. Edwin Monares, provincial administrator.

“Her kindness and motherly love for all personnel of the Capiz provincial government endeared her to all of us,” according to Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras in a statement.

Her “untimely demise” left a void “that will not soon be replaced; we will miss her deeply,” Contreras added.

Sustento’s passing, according to the governor, was a reminder of COVID-19’s virulence.

“We are again appealing to the general public to please observe all the health protocols,” said Contreras, referring to the wearing of facemask and face shield in public, physical distancing and proper washing of hands.

“Let us take necessary precautions to protect ourselves, our families and loved ones, and others from this virus,” Contreras said./PN
