ROXAS City – The bed capacity of the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) here is nearing critical level.
The surge in cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has strained the resources of the regional hospital to its limits, being the only hospital in Capiz accepting these cases.
“While the hospital is still managing the influx of patients to accommodate all those who need its care, the hospital’s COVID bed allocation is nearing the critical level and the number of patients seeking admission continues to rise,” the management said in a statement.
The RMPH is a 147-bed capacity facility.
As of April 21, Capiz logged 156 active cases.
Roxas City had the most number of active cases at 84, followed by Jamindan town with 16 cases; Pontevedra and President Roxas with 15 cases each; Sigma with six cases; Panitan with five cases; Cuartero with four cases; Pilar with three cases; Ivisan, Tapaz and Dumaras with two cases each; and Mambusao and Panay with two cases each.
The RMPH management made an urgent appeal to the public to exercise more caution to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
Left unchecked, cases could overwhelm Capiz’s healthcare system.
“We ask everyone to please refrain from leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary and, if you have to, please wear your facemasks and face shields properly, observe at least one meter distance from other people, and avoid crowded places,” RMPH management’s appeal read./PN
