Capiz records first ‘cracker’ injury

CAPIZ – This province registered its first firecracker-related injury this year on Dec. 22.

The victim was a 42-year-old intoxicated male from President Roxas town, according to Joeffry Espiritu, development management officer of the Department of Health (DOH) in Capiz.

The man failed to immediately release the bilong-bilong firecracker after lighting it. He sustained blast burn on his left hand.

Espiritu reminded the public to celebrate Christmas and New Year safely. As much as possible, avoid using firecrackers to welcome the New Year, he stressed.

“For a safer and healthier holiday season, let’s protect ourselves from fireworks and firecracker-related injuries and always have a safe and healthy food options,” said Espiritu.

The DOH officer noted that some specified firecrackers are prohibited by the Philippine National Police. These are watusi, piccolo, pop-pop, five star, atomic triangle, “goodbye De Lima,” and “goodbye Napoles”.
