Capiz SP asks LTO to defer vehicle inspection scheme

As the government placed Luzon under enhanced community quarantine due to the rising number of virus cases, vehicle sales face severe downside risks this year, Fitch Solutions said in a report dated Mar. 23. PHILKOTSE.COM

ROXAS City – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Capiz appealed to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to defer implementing its new system in vehicle registration in the province.

In this new scheme, all vehicles must first undergo and pass inspection in accredited motor vehicle inspection centers prior to registration.

According to Provincial Board member Eleuper Martinez, at least 60 parts of a vehicle must be inspected or tested, and should one part fail or is deemed worn out, the vehicle owner would be required to repair or replace it prior to registration.

This scheme, said Martinez, will adversely affect most especially the already economically hard-up operators and of ageing public utility vehicles (those at least five years old), and therefore an added burden in this time of coronavirus pandemic./PN
