CAPIZ pulled off a stunning 62-53 victory over the defending champions Iloilo province in the secondary boys basketball event of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet on Tuesday at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City.
Janwell Famaranco and Raffy Arguelles were at the forefront of offense for the Capiznons as they thwarted the second half run by the Ilonggos to improve to 2-0 win-loss slate.
“This is a big win for us kasi against Iloilo team but hindi pa kami contented dito. We are still aiming for the gold medal and the Palarong Pambansa slot,” Arguelles told Panay News.
The Capiznons surged to an early 10-2 start before settling for a 19-16 lead after 10 minutes. The home team found its shooting touch in the second frame to build a 35-24 halftime lead.
The Ilonggos mounted a huge fight back in the second half as they trimmed the deficit to two points several times but errors from them late in the match allowed the Capiznons to escape with the win.
