Capiz to reopen prov’l library

ROXAS City – Closed since November 2013 after super typhoon “Yolanda” damaged it, Capiz’s provincial library will reopen to the public.

The National Library of the Philippines will help get this done.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Capiz in Resolution No. 498-2021 authorized the Capiz provincial government to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the National Library of the Philippines for this.

The Capiz Provincial Library was established in 1952, records of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office showed.

According to Vice Gov. James “Mitang” Magbanua, this was even prior to the passage of Republic Act No. 7743 (June 17, 1994) or “An Act Providing for the Establishment of Congressional, City and Municipal Libraries and Barangay Reading Centers throughout the Philippines, Appropriating the Necessary Funds Therefore and for Other Purposes.”

Pursuant to the Local Government Code of 1991, the management and custody of the library is under the supervision of the Secretary to the Sanggunian.

The Capiz Provincial Library was originally located at the Capiz provincial capitol that was damaged when super typhoon “Yolanda” struck. Books and other reading materials were damaged.

On Sept. 30, 2020 the Capiz Provincial Library was transferred to the Capiz Government and Business Center under the management and supervision of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office./PN
